Mazda 3

First released in 2003, the Mazda 3 was an instant hit, particularly amongst those looking for a compact, family saloon. Available in two styles, buyers can still pick up the first incarnation of the Mazda 3 as either a four-door coupe or a five-door hatchback, in addition to the performance-based Mazda 3 MPS.

Generations of the Mazda 3

Following its widespread popularity, the Mazda 3 was given a makeover prior to releasing the second-generation design in 2009. A sportier exterior gave the Mazda 3 a facelift, while the addition of rain-sensing wipers, bi-xenon headlights and dual-zone automatic climate control enhanced the interior on Grand Touring trim models too.

Later second-gen models also featured Mazda’s SkyActiv technology, so be sure to look out for second-gen Mazda 3 models manufactured post-2012 when you’re searching for used Mazda cars. A direct-injection engine, 6-speed transmission and more rigid body are just some of the benefits associated with SkyActiv technology, so there is a distinct difference between pre and post-2012 second-generation models.

It was, of course, the third-generation Mazda 3 that included the latest SkyActiv technology as standard. With three options available, you can opt for a 1.5 or 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 2.2-litre diesel if you’re looking for extra power.

The latest Mazda 3 was released in 2019 and turned the model in the fastest-selling car, which highlights just how popular the Mazda 3 is. Despite its relatively recent release date, you’ll find plenty of fourth-generation used Mazda 3 vehicles on sale. Typically with low mileage and minimal usage, this can be a great way to secure a bargain on an almost-new vehicle.
