​​The Citroen C3 is an extremely popular option in the small car segment. It brings a strong reputation for value-for-money, ease-of-use and low running costs too. ​Though the influx of SUVs and crossovers into the general new car market is hard to ignore - with Citroen taking advantage of this too - there’s still a place for the standard hatchback.

Interior Design

Citroen has been having a big push on the comfort levels in its cars. It’s why, inside the C3, you’ll find seats which are heavily padded and great to sit in. They’re called Advanced Comfort seats, and have been designed to take the backache out of long journeys - quite literally. Usually an optional extra for much of the range, top-spec C3 models do benefit from these seats being fitted as standard.​

There’s space for five inside the C3, while there’s a good degree of boot space too - 300 litres, in fact. It’s a far more spacious car than you might think given its compact exterior proportions.

Exterior Design

The outside of the C3 is still recognisable as a Citroen; the French firm gave it a relatively understated lift over the outgoing model. The LED light ‘pods’ are larger at the front - and so is the grille - while the rear lights have been given a smoked effect.

The side ‘Airbumps’ remain - and are still a great way of avoiding car park dings - while a series of new colour packs allow you to get the C3 to look just how you want it to.

Technology

The main technological offerings in the C3 are based around a seven-inch colour touchscreen located in the middle of the dashboard. It’s here where you’ll gain access to features such as satellite navigation and media controls. It’s even capable of displaying the price of fuel at nearby petrol stations.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both included too, allowing you to seamlessly link your smartphone to the car’s system.

Performance

The engine line-up available with the C3 is simple and easy to understand; there are two petrol engines and one diesel. The two petrol engines - both 1.2 litres in capacity - bring either 82bhp or 109bhp in the turbocharged version. The former is available with a five-speed manual gearbox, while the latter arrives with a six-speed instead. Both are efficient and quiet options, with either providing enough grunt for most occasions.

We’d argue that the petrol will be the best fit for this Citroen, though those who are planning on undertaking longer journeys will appreciate the long-distance refinement that you get with a diesel. The diesel will be the choice for high-mileage C3 owners, where it’ll provide a more efficient engine option. Citroen claims that it should return up to 67mpg, in fact.

There’s also the option of either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, furthering the C3’s appeal.

Citroen C3 Feel

The Citroën C3 Feel features 16-inch 'Matrix' alloy wheels, a bi-tone roof in black as standard with an optional extra to change to white or red, automatic air-conditioning, a 7-inch touchscreen with mirror screen and front and electric rear windows. The C3 Feel is available in 5 different engine options ranging from the PureTech manual 82hp engine to the PureTech 110 S&S EAT6 Automatic engine as well as the BlueHDi 100 6-speed manual engine.

Multiply the colour combinations

The Citroën C3 comes in a wide range of body colours (nine) : Almond Green, Arctic White, Cobalt Blue, Shark Grey, Aluminium Grey, Ruby Red, Perla Nera Black, Power Orange and Soft Sand. These mix and match subtly or spectacularly with a choice of roof colours (three): Onyx Black, Aden Red, Opal White. And there are a total of 36 possible combinations in all. Something for everybody!
