Got the need for space on a budget? Here are some of the best options available on the used market today.
For some families a standard SUV doesn’t cut the mustard when it comes to space. When it comes to outright roominess, you’ll have to turn to a seven-seater.
The used car market for seven-seaters is wide and varied, which means it can be quite a tricky job deciding on one. However, we’ve set a budget of £25,000 and investigated some of the best seven-seater options available on the used market today. Let’s take a look.
Land Rover Discovery
A pillar of the Land Rover line-up, the Discovery is now into its fifth generation - but our £25,000 budget sadly won’t stretch to that. However, don’t despair, as the fourth generation Disco remains an excellent seven-seater option.
Though the middle row isn’t awfully spacious, it’s got plenty of room for children while smaller ones will be able to get comfy in the rearmost seats - even on the longest of trips.
Volvo XC90
The Volvo XC90 comes as somewhat of a surprise in this list - as the most recent generation models come into this budget. It means you can get a slice of the Swedish firm’s latest vehicle tech for under £25,000.
All cars get distinctive styling, plenty of equipment and excellent safety systems too - it’s a truly impressive entry into this line-up.
SEAT Tarraco
New examples of Seat’s spacious Tarraco sit at the very top of this budget, but for that you get tons of equipment as well as loads of practicality. Though you could haggle your way into a brand-new but entry-level model, we’d advise opting for a nearly-new example which will likely feature more in the way of standard tech.
Ford S-Max
Though SUVs are the flavour of the month, you shouldn’t be put off from going for the humble MPV. One such example is the Ford S-MAX. It’s huge, practical and has more cabin space than any other car on this list. It’s great to drive, too. Like the Tarraco, you can nab a new version of the S-Max if you haggle - but well-specified 2019 models will be a better option for those after value-for-money.
Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer
Since we’re already looking at MPVs, why not take a look at the Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer. It’s got a lot of character and is supremely comfortable, while a large, wide, windscreen helps to create a cabin which is bright and airy.
Again, you’ll be able to haggle down a new model, but plenty of top-spec models are available on the used market with just delivery miles.
Kia Sorento
Kia has been knocking it out of the park in recent years, turning its attention to making well-built but affordable cars which appeal in every segment of the motoring world. It’s particularly true of the Sorento, which is the firm’s budget-busting SUV.
Opt for one of the most recent diesel engines and its classed as an ultra-low emissions vehicle too, saving money when it comes to running costs too.
Skoda Kodiaq
If value-for-money is a top priority for you when looking at a seven-seater, then the Kodiaq is a great option. It’s smartly designed, comfortable and impressively practical too.
It’s the least expensive new car on this list, in fact, chiming in at around £26,000. However, again, top-spec nearly-new models are probably the best idea.
