Electric Mini Convertible set to arrive in 2025

By Motor Match • 20/05/2021

It forms the next part of the firm’s electrification expansion.

Mini has confirmed that the next-generation Convertible is here to stay – and it will be available with an electric version.

Mini has only just refreshed its open-top model, but had not confirmed whether a next-generation model was on the cards to coincide with the upcoming Hatch in 2025.

Now it has been revealed that an all-new Convertible model will be coming in four years’ time and will give buyers the option of either petrol-powered engines or an electric powertrain.

It is expected to be one of the last Minis to be released with a choice of internal combustion engines, with the British brand confirming its last petrol and diesel models will go on sale in 2025.

Berd Körber, head of the Mini brand, said: “The Mini Convertible has a large and particularly loyal fan base. This is also shown by the great demand for the latest, freshly updated model. We are therefore firmly convinced of the success of this vehicle concept for the future.”

Mini recently laid its electrification plans, wanting at least half of its sales to be electric by 2027. The Convertible will be a key part of this, as the firm says it is currently the best-selling drop-top in the UK.
