Virtual Reality Test Drives

Is it really possible to test drive a car from home?

Abarth has introduced a new virtual reality test drive which can help to bring the thrill of one of the brand’s performance cars into the comfort of the home.

Claimed to be one of the first of its kind, the virtual reality - or VR - experience has been released in order to allow potential customers to experience a dynamic test drive without having to leave their home. Given that current restrictions have forced dealerships to close and test drives to cease, VR technology is what Abarth believes will give an ‘immersive and exhilarating alternative’ to a conventional test drive.

A trial period for the technology is currently underway at the Vospers Abarth dealership in Exeter and, if successful, could be deployed across the country.

The experience will see a member of the dealership’s team deliver an Abarth-branded crate to the front door of the customer, ensuring that all Government coronavirus guidelines are met. Inside, customers will find a virtual reality headset which is pre-loaded with high-definition test drive footage. In addition, a set of headphones will give the footage a suitably dramatic soundtrack.

The crates will also include a Bluetooth speaker and a baseball cap, as well as a dealership brochure outlining key information about Abarth’s current line-up of cars.

By using both the headset and headphones, customers will be taken aboard the new Abarth 595 Scorpioneoro. Guided by Abarth owner Stef Vilaverde, viewers will be able to see all manner of crucial parts of the 595 while taking in stunning views of north Wales.
